Home Improvements from Hell

So most of our family and friends have been keeping tabs on what we've been doing to fix the house. The whole mess started with a few random squirrels in the chimney, which lead to the decision to replace the wood burning fireplace with a pellet stove. Which led to replacing the facing of the fireplace with new slate tile (which looks great but took some time). Which lead to pulling out the laminate and carpet that were existing when we bought our house 3 years ago. I've hated the flooring since day one, but we realized once we pulled up the laminate in the kitchen that the previous owners had just put the laminate OVER some nasty ceramic tiles.

This pic is of the front entryway. Note the lovely attempt at a design in the tiles. Then again, the house was built in 1987 and this proves it!

So I started pulling up ceramic tiles at 8 1/2 months pregnant because we needed to get them all up before Sandi and Gavin, Steve's sister and her hubby, came up to help us put in the new flooring. They only had a few days and of course this needed to be taken care of before they started on the new stuff! It took two days and several trips to the dump, but Steve and I got it taken care of. Grace was a huge help, but we told her if she was going to be around while we were working she would need to put on a pair of sunglasses to keep from getting ceramic chips in her eyes, and of course would need to put on shoes. So she did. And then she started trying to help pick up the pieces of tile, so we told her to get her gardening gloves, which she did. And then she realized Steve was wearing kneepads to save his knees, so she decided she needed to look like daddy. Here's the result:

Hard to resist a kid like that, isn't it?

Anyway, the laminate floor (the new one) is now done, and it looks GREAT! No more carpet, no more tiles. Now why didn't we do this 3 years ago?
